Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do you clean concrete, stone and brick?

A. We use a variety of different techniques, solutions and abrasives, on a case-by-case basis. We start by inspecting the site and provide a quote with an appropriately designed solution, whether this be based on pressure and chemicals, or more specialist abrasive-blasting or steam cleaning techniques.

Q. Do you clean windows? Even hard to reach ones?

A. Absolutely! We are fully equipped to deal with any building, whether with a water-fed pole system operated from the ground, or with custom access equipment designed for the job.

Q. Will your cleaning services damage our building?

A. No. Our exterior cleaning staff are trained to select an appropriate cleaning method for the materials and surfaces they are asked to clean. See below for more information on the options.

Q. How does Pressure or Power Washing work?

A. Pressure washing (sometimes called power washing) is a cleaning technique where a machine is used to pressurise a tank of liquid (usually water with a detergent or other cleaning product added to it) and then spray at high speed at the target surface using a lance or wand. Klear has experience of a range of pressure washers from hand-held portable electric washers to large, diesel-powered machines which are towed to the site. In practical terms, we will always inspect a site and quote for an appropriate solution for the project.

Q. What is Abrasive Blasting?

A. In some cases, pressure washing with a liquid is not sufficient to remove a stain on stone, brick or concrete. Provided the structure can withstand it, an alternative is to ‘blast’ particles of an abrasive material such as sand, soda, or even metal at the surface, for a deeper clean. Whist this method is not suitable for more sensitive surfaces is highly effective against stubborn staining on exteriors.

Q. What is Steam Cleaning?

A. Steam Cleaning is the latest technique to be added to Klear’s portfolio. With our industrial steam cleaner, we can now offer a deeper clean on exteriors than pressure washing can achieve, but without some of the potential drawbacks of abrasive blasting. Steam cleaning can be ideal for conservation and restoration tasks.

Q. What areas of the country do you work in?

A. We have clients all across Yorkshire and beyond. We work very regularly in Sheffield, Leeds, Doncaster, Rotherham, Worksop, Barnsley, Pontefract and Huddersfield. If your site is based outside Yorkshire, distance is not usually a problem but please do call our office to discuss your project.
